Jeep’s first all-electric vehicle will launch in the first half of 2023.

Stellantis confirmed the news during its most recent financial results, announcing that it will launch 21 low-emission vehicles in the next two years as part of a plan to invest about $35.5 billion in electrified vehicles by 2025.

The car manufacturer did not state which Jeep model will be the first offered with an electric powertrain, but it did recently unveil an electric Wrangler-based concept, meaning the off-roader is one possibility. Jeep, of course, already sells the Wrangler in hybrid 4xe guise and in Europe and China, offers the Compass and Renegade with plug-in hybrid options. Similarly, the Commander is sold as a PHEV in China and Jeep is gearing up to launch a plug-in hybrid Grand Cherokee later this year, The Detroit News reports.

Jeep expects 70 per cent of its sales to be for electrified vehicles by 2025.

Elsewhere within the Stellantis brand, it is understood that Dodge will launch a plug-in hybrid in 2022, although specifics about it are unclear. Details regarding the electrification plans for Chrysler are also vague, but speaking during the earnings call, Stellantis chief executive Carlos Tavares said the company has big plans for it.

“We are now preparing for the rebound of this brand,” he said. “We will tell you more before the end of this year, but the plans are moving quite nicely to a very exciting proposal that is going to be based on fresh product, fresh technology, and most probably an innovative distribution model.”
If Jeep wants to make a splash, their first BEV needs to be the Wrangler.
